Climate Tech in Europe: Increase in Companies and Investment in the Field

Since the start of our project, we have been observing even a greater focus on financing businesses and projects with digital and green solutions both at the national and EU levels.


Digital solutions can enable transformation towards sustainability. Allocation of funds to such solutions and financing impactful projects are critical to reach sustainable development goals. This is how the topics of Digitalization, Financial Access and Impact are inter-connected in our project, GT4SME. Since the start of our project, we have been observing even a greater focus on financing businesses and projects with digital and green solutions both at the national and EU levels.

According to a recently published article, the number of climate tech companies active in the areas ranging from transportation to agriculture has been increasing in Europe, and Germany is the leading country in the area. Berlin-based vertical-farming company Infarm is one of the outstanding examples, which “raised $170m at the end of last year and a further $100m” in the beginning of March this year [Read the article here].

The article is based on the data that has been gathered by the VC firms Speedinvest and Creandum, which have been mapping out climate tech ventures throughout Europe in a comprehensive list. The list is open for new applications until the end of March and climate tech startups are invited to send their information if they want to be included in the list [More information here].
